The Armagetron project is considering AppImages as a way to distribute alpha versions:

Armagetron -> Development -> Beta Testing

I tested the AppImages linked there, worked very well for me.
If you like PortableLinuxApps and the AppImage format, you might consider a donation --> Image

They've been actually using AppImages as main distribution format for a while :)
