Apps don't work on LXDE and Openbox

Postby susavane » Thu Jan 05, 2012 1:08 pm

Hi friendly helpers,
I have used many portable apps on Gnome or Enlightenment Desktops or on Puppy Linux. They work without any problems.
But I experienced, that on Lubuntu with LXDE or on Peppermint Os or Zorin Os litewith Openbox they don't start. When I
mark "execute" in the properties, it unmarks itself. And when I click to start the app, the system opens a window to choose
a programm to open the file with or to start by command line. But I dont't know which command I have to type. It is also not
possible tostart the apps by terminal command. Does anyone have an idea to solve this problem?
Thank you in advance. Greetings,
Susanne

The AppImages on this site are meant to be used on Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx) 32-bit, OpenSUSE 11.3 (GNOME) 32-bit , and Fedora 12 (GNOME) 32-bit, and later. We have not made any effort to make them run on Puppy Linux.

Hi probono,
but yes, the Appimages do work on Puppy without problems.
It's Lubuntu, Peppermint Os and Zorin Os where I cannot start them.
I installed these Oses on an EeePC 701 4G and wanted to have some useful
portable programs on the sdhc-card, but no chance.
But now I changed to Easy Peasy and I can use them.
Greetings,
Susanne

Susanne, I am sure that you mean to say that these portable applications work on the Lucid Puppy 5 (LUPU 5) series of Puppy Linux. This is because the LUPU 5 series are based on Ubuntu. On other Puppy Linux series (perhaps all others?), these portable applications, unfortunately, simply don't work.

Whenever something doesn't run, you could try running it in the command line and note any errors about missing libraries. You could then either install the missing libraries in the base system (not recommended) or unpack the AppImage, add the libraries, and repack the AppImage (recommended).
