AppImageKit PDF Docum v 2.0 - sugestions, corrections

##################
AppImageKit PDF DOCUMENTATION NEXT VERSION
( MAYBE 1.1 OR 2.0 ) - sugestions, corrections, improvement

FIRST (1.0) ORIGINAL VERSION, HERE:
http://portablelinuxapps.org/docs/1.0/
##################

=================
MY SUGESTION :

In the file AppImageKit-1.0.PDF

There´s an error at the end of page 06, where says :
"4. RUN create-appimage. For example, if you would..."
I think that should say "create-appdir" where says "create-appimage"

01 - At the begin of next page ( 07 ), the file "create-appimage" still been mentioned.
I like to know if it is correct the file name : "create-appimage" yes/no ?

========

02 - If the file name "create-appimage" is correct, where to find it ?
I searched on the file AppimageKit8.tar.gz - NOT HERE
I searched the site portableappslinux.org, where is the AppImageAssistant - NOT HERE
I searched the site sourceforge -> project -> portable -
http://sourceforge.net/projects/portable/files/ - NOT HERE
So, where is the file "create-appimage" ?

========

03 - If the file name "create-appimage" is NOT correct :

HERE IS MY SUGESTION FOR THE NEXT VERSION OF AppImageKit.PDF DOCUMENTATION,
( MAYBE 1.1 OR 2.0 ) :

Write the correct reference to "create-appdir" replacing wrong citation "create-appimage"
for pages 06 e 07 and TOPIC 4 ( "4. RUN create-appimage ..." ).

- The correct "create-appdir" file is in the file :
AppimageKit(X).tar.gz - X is the version 6, 7, 8
http://portablelinuxapps.org/source/

Just uncompress and seach the folder:
AppimageKit(X)/

Hi vinirv,

thanks for your suggestions and sorry for the late reply.

create-appdir is a small script I put together (see attachment). However, it's now outdated by the much more powerful AppDirAssistant, which you can download from the frontpage. I need to update the documentation accordingly.

For a short screencast on how to use AppDirAssistant:

Ok, but if i don't want to install anything on my system? how i can do?
AppDirAssistant requires installation of packages that i want to make appimages on my system; apt-image not but now is outdated.

You only need to install packages in order to produce the AppImage. You can do this on a Live CD or in a virtual machine for example. After the AppImage is produced, you can remove the installed packages again.

Alternatively, you can always put together an AppDir "by hand" and run it through AppImageAssistant.

Can you explain this to me?

The contents of an AppDir are described in the documentation above. If you put such an AppDir together, you can use AppImageAssistant to turn it into a single-file AppImage.

Let me know if you run into trouble - best is to upload your AppDir in the "Labs" section and ask for help, then we can have a look at it.
